Cheddar Apple Dog Cookies

Ingredients:

2 cups dry oats

1 egg

1 1/2 Tbsp water

1 1/2 Tbsp vegetable oil

1 apple

1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Directions:

1) Preheat oven to 30 degrees. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

2) In a food processor or blender, blend the oats until fine. If your processor is too small, you may need to blend one cup at a time.

3) Pour the blended oats into the bowl of a stand mixer. Add the egg and mix until combined. Pour in 1 Tbsp of the water and 1 Tbsp of the vegetable oil, mixing briefly. Mixture will be clumpy.

4) On a small cutting board or mat, cut the apple into 1/2 inch cubes. Add 3/4 cups of the cubed apples to the oat mixture and mix well. Make sure that the apples are evenly distributed. Mix in the cheese next, then add the 1/2 Tbsp of water and 1/2 Tbsp of vegetable oil.

5) Dump the mixture out onto a countertop or mat. It does not need to be floured or greased. The mixture will not stick together at first, so form it into ball.

6) Roll out the dough to 1/2 inch thickness. Don't be alarmed if it falls apart at first. When this starts to happen, simply press in the sides of the dough and re-roll it. Using a cookie cutter of choice, cut out the cookies. You will have to re-roll the dough several times in order to use it all. (Note: if there are too many apples in one section of the dough, the cookie will not hold. You may need to remove some of the apple cubes or re-distribute them).

7) Lay the cookies out on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 10 minutes, until hard, dry, and slightly browned, as shown below..

8) Store in an air tight container, up to a week in the fridge and up to a few days at room temperature. Makes 12 cookies.

This is an original recipe, hope your dog loves it as much as Kali does!
